Birks & Fashion Magazine Jewellery Event… Yuuuuum!
So last night I had the pleasure of attending a soiree filled with martini’s, champagne, red wine and all the hors d’oeuvre’s you could wish for… not to mention fantabulous fashion and jewellery!
*Ummmm… where the eff else did you expect me to be with all them mantraps thrown into that mix?!?*
A rather large group of Fashionista’s from the 514 gathered in the Birks Jewellers flagship store on St. Catherine/Phillips Square here in downtown Montreal for a little 5 a 7 voyerism…

For all of you unfamiliar to Birks… it is like the Canadian version of Tiffany’s (but really how can you compare? Birks has completely it’s own thing going on)… luxe drool worthy jewellery for every taste. Carrying quite a large collection of beautiful handcrafted silver, diamond rings to make you swoon and ultimate timepeices you could only ever wish to own… walking into Birks is like walking into a scene from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Majestic.
Truly some of the most beautiful designer home ware I’ve seen…
The beautiful flagship store was the “it” place to be, decorated for the holidays with extravagant Christmas trees to compliment the permanent decor of crystal chandeliers, marble columns and grand staircases… everything about this place screams tradition, class and luxury.
The DJ brought an awesome modern and fresh feel to the ambiance of the event.
Yeah, yeah, yeah… I know at the end of the day these are just oranges, but how freakin’ cool do they look skewered?!? It’s like you fool people out of thinking they are “just” oranges… I’m not sure I can go back to eating them the regular way anymore… GARCON! Fetch me my skewer to stab my oranges with svp! Chop chop (what is this waiting about?)!!!
Like I said, you have to hand it to Birks for some of the beautiful things they create outside of the jewellery field. Why not crystal champagne flutes or martini glasses? What about your favorite bottle of booze chillin’ in a silver ice bucket? Glam does not always have to mean personal style my friends…
And so the fashion show began! Models showed off this season’s picks wearing beautiful jeweltone dresses courtesy of BCBG (love ‘em!).
FASHION magazine’s acting Editor-in-Chief Bernadette Morra introduced the collections and offered insightful advice on how to mix and match the following gorgeous peices in trend setting ways. Who says pearl necklaces and heirloom rings have to be grandma?
Ummmm… how gorgeous are these models?!?!
Silver pearl-like bauble necklace (I think this looks awesome with this girlies hair cut).
And OH THE DRESS!!!
The funky side of pearls. Love, LOVE, LOVE it! So many layers, strands, textures, colors and sizes… mixin’ it up just the way I like.
Aight, these may be a bit too sweet for me (I personally like a bit of edge to my style) but this angelic looking girl pulls off the “sweetness” look just right. Very New York City fundraiser appropriate! The royal purple dress with the shoulder zipper detail gives her just the style punch she needs to keep this look interesting.
MODEL POSE! Paparazzi snap me up!
Okay, not only am I crazy about the applique and frills on this dress but GET A LOAD OF THEM RINGS!!! The fact that they are blinking at you without you even zooming in on them speaks volumes. These rings are statement peices. Vivid semi-precious and precious stones in gi-normous sizes steal the spotlight. Dress? What dress??? Look at that BLING BABY! Please do zoom in though – they are quite worth the look
Diamond hoop earrings. Cause every girls gotta pull a Beyonce and have ‘em… Can I have ‘em bigga sir??? With more ICE perhaps???
One of the trends Bernadette mentioned during her presentation was mixing metals… gold, silver, diamonds, whatever goes! That philosophy worked wonders on the above model, not so sure I am as adventurous though… I think I would feel a bit too mismatched! I have just gots to go with silver looking things… does white gold and silver count as mixing it up? lol, I’m such a friggin’ dork.
This pic is a MUST on the zoom-worthy scale! Cuffs, pearls, vintage inspired diamond rings, chunk-tastic bracelet in semi-precious stones… wowsers!
A vino sipping fashionista taking in the eye candy of the evening (who I think used to go to my highschool…)
And yet another surprise speaker! Jennifer Heil, Canada’s own Olympic Champion Skier (and Birks elected embassador) introduced the collection she designed in silver for the Vancouver 2010 winter Olympics. Go Jen go! Heil was the first-ever Canadian woman to win the gold medal in women’s moguls back in 2006 – good job Birks on picking an amazing role model for your campaign! Props!
I snapped up this girl cause I fell in love with her dress… oh you 514 ladies!
The end of the nights events simmered down with raffle winners (lucky lucky ladies) and beautiful gift bags for all who attended… tune in to Fashionista 514 for my up-and-coming giveaway featuring a sterling silver keychain designed by Olympian Jennifer Heil for the 2010 winter games.
Thank you Birks and FASHION MAGAZINE for a beautiful presentation and soiree!
