I just have not been able to get over the beautiful sunshine days we have been having so early in the season… forcing me out of my studio during the day to enjoy the good weather and back into it at night to catch up on all my work!  I honestly have no clue what I will do come summer… I will have to find an outdoor terrace somewhere in the city with wifi and plant myself there for extensive amounts of time!  With good weather comes my need and insatiable thirst for color and bold prints that MUST BE SATISFIED!  Tired of blacks, neutrals and grays (although not even sure I fall down that hole in the winter), I want colors of flowers, herbs and sunsets all over my wardrobe!  I suppose it really is just a metaphor for the happiness that sunshine revives in all of us… our yearly return to worshipping mother nature and all the beautiful displays of what she is capable of creating.

Today I had a meeting at the bank (again) to finish up the creation of my business account!  It feels more and more real every time I see my name beside some crazy owner/president title… I just feel like a silly girl doing the silly things that she loves the most – not some Trump style business woman (although I’m sure I could learn a TON about what I’m supposed to be doing from that family)!  Feels good to keep at knocking down my huge list of “to do’s”.

Lately I have also been feeling quite down… there has been a slew of negativity on my blog and in my life as of late and as much as it may (possibly) seem like I am superwoman herself, I am quite the opposite – very breakable.  Bad vibes and comments DO affect me and although I know that is part of putting myself out there, I still can’t take away the hurt that comes along with that responsibility when I’m caught on a weak day.  I have been taking a bit more time for myself over the past few days and surrounding myself with close friends with positive insight.  I cannot thank them enough for being there for me over the past bit – they have boosted my inner energies and strengths and given me the power to fight even harder when I am down.  I hate how someone’s lies can still make you feel like garbage and am learning to move beyond and above the stupid petty shit people seem to constantly dish out at me (be it directly or indirectly).  When I really think about it though, I know that I will be the last man standing and laughing in the end.  While people waste their valuable and precious energy devoting time to hating me they are only robbing themselves of their own potential.  It’s flattering really when you realize that people are sacrificing the limited time they are given in their lives to write me hate mail… no more will I waste time responding or defending.  Either love me or leave me alone.  If you don’t like my blog GET THE FUCK OFF.  If you don’t like me GOODBYE.  No one is forcing you to log on to MY page… spend your time somewhere you actually enjoy losers.

We all experience days where negativity tries to creep into our lives and destroy our mood, concentration and positive outlook.  Sometimes we alone just do not have the strength to fight back and focus on the good and positive all around us.  I like keeping inspirational books and quotes all around me from famous, influential men and women who are the imaginary cheerleaders of my life   Sometimes all you need to hear is that perfect line to get you back on track and feeling right as rain.  These quotes are taken from a book Kanye West made.  Yes… unbelievable considering his recent stunts, but nobody can deny this man is an unstoppable powerhouse.  He accomplished the impossible when absolutely nobody believed in him.  His determination may sometimes be confused with delusion, but this man truly inspires me.  The world sees him as a cocky, arrogant asshole (and I’m not sure I disagree…) however when you are your own rock, I can understand how someone could react this way in the feat for self preservation.  He talks big, but he also happens to deliver.  I saw his concert not too far back and they were giving these books out.  Thank you Kanye… these quotes and life experiences have gotten me through many hard days and gotten me back on track to positive fulfillment.

So last week proved to be the busiest my social calendar has probably EVER been.  Montreal Fashion Week was crazy!  Not that I’m complaining, but they really planned it in a non-stop manner!  Shows every hour on the hour injected my brain with hoards of inspiration and left my stomach feeling empty and neglected!  Needless to say, as soon as my day was done I would dash either to the Mc Donalds down the street or trek home for a hearty can of Campbells tomato soup and saltines   Can’t beat that now can ya?  This weekend was full of catching up and relaxing.  My apartment and studio was so filthy from neglect and lack of time and effort throughout my nutso week… piles of laundry, dishes on the floor (Mademoiselle pug always gets the leftovers), and magazines/promo gift bags scattered everywhere on the couch and pooling out onto the floor… thank the lord Vlad helped me out cause otherwise it would have taken me possibly a few days to recover the place to it’s original state!

Yesterday my darling neighbor Jihane returned from her trip back home to Paris and Senegal (how cool right?) and brought me back the most delicious, unbelievable macarons in all of the land… she says Laduree is one of the best places in Paris to enjoy these delicacies.  With flavors such as vanilla lime, raspberry, double chocolate, orange blossom, rose and blackcurrant I am not about to argue with her – Vlad and I seriously went through these in two days.  Luxuries such as these are best when shared with friends, family and the wonderful neighbors who trekked them in all the way from the city of love just for you.  Thank you Jihane!  I owe you 1,000 homemade dinners!

I’m telling you… if this is actually what Paris is really like I may never return home and have to change my blog name to Fashionista formerly 514 (my condolences Montreal)… honestly, the way to my heart really is through my stomach so it is a very real possibility that I will get lost in the land of gourmet…

Here is a two image rundown of all the shows I attended last week… INTENSITY!  Loved ‘em all and kinda sad it’s back to the bat cave of brainstorming and pug sitting… as much as I love the chill aura of my job, sometimes a little chaos and intensity is quite thrilling

Oh… and I know this is kinda late, but HAPPY WOMEN’S DAY!!!  What did I do to celebrate today?  Well… I made breakfast for my mom, spent time with my pug daughter and joined Erin, Aya and Cassandra from the Katrin Leblond Boutique for an afternoon pow wow discovering new and amazingly talented local fashion design artists… it really is such and amazing and inspiring time to be a woman!  ROAR!

My babe treated me to a delicious smoked meat dinner at Schwartz’s on St. Laurent and topped it up with picking up my favorite Boston Cream Donut from Tim Hortons… for some reason mustard tasted orgasmic tonight (on the smoked meat of course…).  Really can’t quite stretch enough how lovely my day was and how appreciated I feel.

The highlight of my weekend?  Besides going to see the Grand Burlesque Show, this incredible comic courtesy of Zina!!!  She immortalized me into a cartoon in full KL mode during fashion week.

Thank you Zina – incredible is really an understatement of your talents!

I have to say, the Coccolily show was definitely one of my favorites.  With upbeat music, flirtatious models and killer “Miss Murder” styles, how could anyone not fall in love with the clothing?!?  Black lace, bustiers, tulle tutu’s, detailed stalkings, tailored jackets and pasties made for a uber seductive collection.  With undertones of lingerie throughout and a real eighties Madonna (Like a Virgin) feel what was there not to love?

Coccolily’s designer Naana Tennachie Yankey is a world class citizen.  Living everywhere from Ghana, the UK to Ohio and New York City, the culture experience alone is enough to inspire fabulous designs with sentimental history.  Using mostly Italian materials, Naana believes in the power of luxury and that all women deserve to experience a bit of it everyday.  Well… I couldn’t agree more!!!

There was something very powerful about the way she presented her collection.  The models having intensely huge curled Afro-chic hair, and the bold cuts of the suits detailed with gathering, puffed sleeves and boat cut necklines screamed (wo)man on a mission!  I can really see a modern, young CEO pull this off in an unconventional way and actually get away with it at the office.  No need to hide behind masculinity as a woman in power – flaunt what you’ve got sista!  Besides… one of my favorite sayings is

“In this world there is no force equal to the strength of a woman determined to rise”.

So why not put all your best assets forward?  Sometimes the strongest thing you may have going for you is others ability to judge and underestimate your capabilities…

Pencil skirts and long gloves will always remain a classic favorite of mine… if only it were acceptable to wear lingerie bra tops outside the house!  I do hope that a lingerie collection is in the works for Coccolily – there is no doubt about Naana’s ability to seduce with perfectly cut undergarments.  Hip hip heray for demi-bra’s – the perfect cut for ladies with smaller busts!

These girls look like dolls.  Little ladies that raided their mothers closets and found out that they were actually old enough for everything to fit properly   I remember the days (and still dress accordingly sometimes) where more really was more and endless headband, clips, braids and lipsticks were never enough.  Where you found everything you felt was beautiful and just HAD to wear it all at once.  Although I may opt for more of a minimalistic look on-the-go these days, sometimes there is nothing like an obscene amount of embellishment to make you feel like the birthday girl   I think I feel one the need to adorn coming on… lol…

Now this little top hat with the tuxedo style ruffling in the back just cinched my heart and didn’t let go!  I love the theatrics of this piece and how completely wearable it is for a night out (without feeling like you will be announcing the next circus act).

Heray for nipple pasties!  Designers this year seemed to be embracing the beauty of the burlesque staple by pairing them with the sheer trends of fall… although it seems like that might be a bit of a chilly option for the colder months, hey – if this picks up I’ll jump right in for the ride!

So congratulations to Naana on an amazing collection which I cannot WAIT to check out in stores and on truly being one of Montreal Fashion Weeks highlight stars!  Really, beautifully done!

So tonight I will be heading off to the Grand Burlesque show at Club Soda featuring the one and only Scarlett James (whom I’ve been seeing all around fashion week and other events here in the 514 lately)!  I am beyond excited!  This will be my second ever burlesque show and I am anticipating the comedy, art and beauty that makes up a night out such as this.  The crew from the Andrea Hausmann Boudoir portrait studio (who also shot these pics of me) will be there cheering one of their favorite models on   Can’t wait to see a couple people who I know are going to be there and sit back and take notes on the art of the tease!

As for these semi-nudes… a lot of people might be surprised or think down on me for posting these pics on my blog… some may think they are inappropriate, vulgar or even offensive.  Well, to that I just say that there is nothing wrong with showing a little skin in a tasteful way.  Burlesque is something I want to get into and nudity is nothing I am afraid of.  I love the skin I’m in and the person that I am… I’m not about to make excuses or hold back for anyone else.  If anything I would recommend you all to get professional pictures taken of yourself in a rather risque manner – it is very freeing and uplifting.  Throw all your body insecurities down the drain and adorn it… get your hair and makeup done, dress up in lacy, feminine corset style clothing and enjoy every moment of being a goddess of a woman.

Okay, my BABE just sent me this via e-mail… apparently he was driving on the highway and this was the car next to him!  He was able to snap this up via blackberry…  Amazing!  What are the odds that he saw some other Robyn’s car dust compliment live?!?  This truly made my day and reminded me why the world is such a small and intimate place…

Attending the last day of Montreal Fashion Week today – excited!!!  I am well rested up and ready to tackle the after party!!!  This weekend I will be pumping out my fashion show reviews for you all, so stay tuned!  Also gotta seriously clean up my apartment and studio… so much neglect makes for a seriously disgusting space!!!

So last Sunday was a laid back photoshoot at the Phototerra studio with photographer Mark A. Cadiz, model Adrian Wasylyk, stylist Eric Aragon… and makeup/hair artist moi!  Trying to balance the shoot with watching the Olympic hockey game between Canada and the States proved to be a bit of a juggling act… buuuuuttttt…. we WON!  I am in no way much of a hockey fan but I gotta say I felt the pride bubble rise up in my throat.  Canada seriously rocks, it ain’t even funny… damn I adore living here!

Soooo… the clothing used for the styling is all from Banana Republic… who knew it could look so dark and sinister (take that conservative prep)!  I used my MAC cream eyeshadow for this look from the Back to Black collection (I am seriously addicted to that product) for a smudged and imperfect effect.  Towards the end of the shoot Adrian just started smudging it all down his face… really it worked every which way… take THAT guyliner (Adam Lambert being the exception – for some reason I really like that dude).

So Montreal Fashion Week is officially at day number three!  I’ve been having a lot of fun both yesterday and Monday viewing all the shows (except the Muse by Christian Chenail collection… lost track of time as soon as I found food in the Press Room – needed to recharge!) and meeting fellow local bloggers!  I must say that I have been loving experiencing you all in person… words cannot explain how good it feels to meet the person at the other end of the twitter line!  I have to give mega props to Sensation Mode this year!  The setup is the most professional I have seen for Montreal Fashion Week and there seems to be a bigger budget to do things in a bit more of a professional manner.  Go Montreal!  We are on our way to claiming international fashion capitol appeal!

A big thank you to Miss Sly whom I spent most of the day with on Monday and who took the above pics for her blog!  I decided on my DVF rouched satin watercolor dress and BCBG wedges… and who could resist pairing it all with MAC’s Show Orchid lippy?  Added a bit of edge to the mix with my crocodile belt from my trip to South Africa and spiked Stephen Webster earrings   Getting dressed is one of the best highlights to any event!

So the first show of the day was Melissa Nepton.  Great variety of textures, materials and transparencies (actually, I have been noticing that has been quite a major theme for Montreal designers… lots of lace, mesh cutouts, sheer leggings, etc…).  Booties (my die hard favorites) made statements with chain and feather appliques… wedges with fur trim at the ankle and trompe l’oeil lace up sandals that were really embellished tights gave an awesome depth to the collection.  Glad to know that my BCBG wedges will still be up to date this up and coming fall!  Actually, the woman sitting right next to me during the show asked me several times if I was wearing the same boots seen in Melissa’s collection… nope!  Apparently we just enjoy the same caliber of shoe porn!

One thing that I am mega digging is all the furs right now.  I know this is a controversial fashion subject… to fur or not to fur… but you cannot deny that the look and overall aesthetic is anything short of gorgeousness.  While I adore the natural beauty of a real fur (I opt for recycled furs – Harricana styles), fake furs have their own identities and appeal.  I have been scouring the internet as of late for a faux mink vest (or hell even jacket for that matter) to get a bit of that old school glam feeling for myself.  Even though there are plenty of recycled fur options out there, at the end of the day the less killing (and supporting) of living beings the bigger my smile .

You really can never EVER go wrong with a wedge… easy to walk in, comfortable, stunning and low maintenance (no running to the shoe smith to change your heel every two weeks)!  I would vote for the wedge if it was running for a perfect fall shoe presidency…

Now these are just flat out genius to me.  Tights that give the illusion of a dramatic lace-up shoe – one of my favorite elements to the show.  I would pair this with any and every black pump I own!

Although I enjoyed the show very much, I didn’t find much inspiration from the clothing itself.  I loved what she did with the accessories and details, but somehow I felt the collection lacked imagination.  As beautifully as everything came together, it was following some major trends that feel a bit too much in-the-moment already.  I like seeing revolutionary collections.  Shows that look towards the future and present things in a fresh and new fashion (even if it is the same damn pencil skirt).  Sooooo… Melissa did a great job at what she set out for.  Create a collection for super styling working women professionals that is approachable and wearable.  This collection takes the trends of the moment we already know and love and brings them together into looks we already feel comfortable with… and really, that is marketing genius in itself.

Alright!  It must be said!  I want this girls hair color!!!  I can promise you that when my “do” has grown out just a little bit longer I will be running to the salon!  The contrast against her pale skin and the gray fur is really too much for me… suffering from major redhead envy!

This past Wednesday my friend Soudeh and I attended the lovely FINN fashion show in collaboration with Little Burgundy… the most fun I have had in a long time!  First up, I gotta say that the venue was amazingly suited and tailored to the event!  The St. Gabriel restaurant in the old port here in the 514 is rustic, clean cut and has a home style ski lodge feel to it.  The raw interior finishings mixed with the neon uber modern lights of the show made for a refreshing change of atmosphere

Loved the unique crowd of attendees, the fresh fashion and excess of personalities… honestly what an amazing way to celebrate a Wednesday!  As soon as we got there we grabbed a drink at the Belvedere bar and unwound in a relaxed but buzzing atmosphere… the beautiful, lovely (I couldn’t possibly find words to do this gal justice… even despite our momentary meeting) Vanessa Morcom made everyone feel right at home and like true VIP’s.  Its always SO nice to meet new bloggers and 514 fashionistas alike… we all speak the same language of creative love   A big thank you to Vanessa whose photo’s I have scammed for this post – I only came twitter/video cam ready so I really appreciate you letting me “borrow” these!

I was surprised and equally thrilled to see our girl Natalia (who did an amazing job owning the catwalk if I may so myself) looking awesome with her new banged bob (which apparently might be changing again soon into something more pixie-like).  I don’t think I’m going out on much of a limb by assuming she will be all over the Montreal Fashion Week runways.  GO NATALIA – we are all rooting for ya!

Speaking of Montreal Fashion Week (which begins today), I am PSYCHED!  Can’t wait to meet all my tweet buddies, blog colleagues and see what the local designers have dreamed up for us all to wear and integrate into our beautiful lifestyles.  I am lucky to be attending all of the shows as a media persona… which honestly kind of startles me.  I know all about the recent blogger backlash that seems to be plastered all over the internet… beauty and fashion editors all pissed off because bloggers are gaining more and more access to once VIP shows and events.  Honestly, I can’t say I blame them.  Don’t get me wrong – I am HONORED to have gained a press pass.  It makes attending the shows I would have anyways much easier… but really in the scheme of things, who am I to dictate what is or isn’t fashion?  I’m not a blogger who writes posts about up and coming trends, happenings in the world of fashion or up to the minute news.  I am a little girl enjoying my little life via blog (cause she would have otherwise just have jotted it all down in a journal) and expressing what I think is cool.  What fits into my life and what I love.  I don’t have a journalistic approach to the world of fashion and writing about it.  Most of my posts are pictures of me in whatever I decided to put on that morning with my emotional daily breakdown in paragraphs (lol… does that make me a fashion emo?!?).  Sooooo… what I mean to say is that although you may follow my blog because you like my writing style and aesthetics… possibly even trust my judgement… does that really make me worthy of gaining a luxury seat at Mtl. Fashion Week alongside people who have studied journalism and already have that fashion authority?  As honest as my opinion may be, does that give me any cred?  Hmmmm…. some heavy thoughts on a Monday morning…

Anyhoo… last week was intense for me (attempting to catch up on everything I missed out on when I was sick and prep everything a tad before this manic week).  For those of you who don’t know, I officially launched the Katrin Leblond Blog – woohoo!!!  I am SO proud of this new web addition and of Kat who is one of the Montreal Fashion Week presenters… her show is going to be off the hook… I am going crazy with anticipation!  Also it will be SO amazing to see everyone there.  I must say, I am so happy to be back with the very special people and enchanting energies that make up KL and her team (I interned with Kat and was a part of putting on her last Fashion Week show).  We actually just celebrated the boutique manager Erin’s birthday this past Saturday night at Thai Grill on St. Laurent near Laurier… keep checking in to the KL Blog for updates and our pictures from the evening.

Right now… at this very moment… my biggest dilemma is what kind of manicure to get done… short and square navy blue nails or long rounded tips and clear moons… subtle vs. extreme… hmmm… it’s been bouncing around in my mind all morning (and yesterday night)… whaddya think… should I bring on the fierce?!?  All I can think of (honestly) is if I will be able to tweet via iPhone if my nails are too long (addicted much)… okay… this is dumb… let’s move on and get back to the FINN show!

So one of the very first things both Soudeh and I noticed was how amazingly kickin’ the music was.  Honestly… I’m not super into the trendy electro DJ thang, but the tunes were catchy, appropriate and created the ultimate ambiance.  I am so mad that somehow youtube didn’t upload the music to the vid I took… arrrrrrg!  I wouldn’t have to prove to you in adjectives that the music was amazing, you could have experienced it for yourself…

… but then again you would have also heard all our commentaries on how hot all the man models were… and if you could hear drool… well… you get my jist.

Every single one of the pieces in the FINN show were wearable, chic, laid back and full of attitude.  Colorful horizontal stripes, short hemlines, light draped fabrics and the reinvention of some die hard eighties classics made for a fun summery treat.  Between the beauty of the models and the playfulness of the clothing I was looking at some hard core eye candy.

GO TEAM GO!  Speaking of which… how amazing was the hockey match where we CREAMED the States?!?  Love you Americanos, but c’mon… we are Canadian and hockey is in our freakin’ blood… I think it was our time.  GO CANADA GO!  My god I am mimicking a cheerleader today… should call this the “Proud Post” or something…

Okay… now lets talk after party.  Normally it just ain’t my scene to even go (let alone really enjoy) the show after the show… but this club/bar… whatever you want to call it was right next door and I still had a good amount of energy left in me (drinks pre show really help with unwinding and enjoying the rest of the evening – thank you Belvedere)!  I had no idea the place would be so cool!!!  L’Auberge St. Gabriel is hidden away underground where you follow a dungeon-like tunnel whose path is filled with candles into a room filled with leather couches, bars filled with stuffed wildlife and coves of more candles to light the space.  Heaven!  I loved the eerie glam settings and added ping pong table in front of the DJ station (above caught red handed looking somewhat rabid with pong paddle).  Nothing like a game of drunken ping pong!  Now THIS is what a fashion show should be… yeah champagne flutes and caviar are nice, but sometimes anti stuffy is exactly what the soul craves.

I was ECSTATIC to see Canadian Burlesque star Scarlett James at the show (and my future burlesque instructor starting this month) looking gorgeously glamorous and at home in her front row seats (and might I just say that if that is her hubby – they are adorable!).  Can’t wait for the Grand Burlesque Show at Club Soda this Saturday… I’m telling you, this week will definitely be one to remember!

Let the games begin!

A couple nights back, my babe and I were in the tub sharing our philosophies about the food chain and ancient dinosaurs…  a topic came up that I just have not been able to shake since.  We started talking about how some dinosaurs seemed to have such a disadvantage compared to the T- Rex’s of the animal world and massive shark-like carnivores of the sea.  What the hell kind of a chance does a herbivore Brontosaurus stand against a raging killing machine?  I felt this surge of hopelessness as I really thought about it… and then Vlad brought up the solution to end all solutions.  While the T-Rex seems almost rabid to rip all the other dinosaurs apart, he is all alone.  All of his rage and individual power make up all of his strengths.  The Brontosaurus and Stegosaurus may be less aggressive, but normally travel in groups for protection… all of a sudden it is not just one vs. the other… the fight begins to seem more fair.

As we continued our discussion, we applied that rule to both the animal kingdom and the current world that we live in.  The fact that mother nature has done an exquisite job at balancing out the pendulums of power.  The kings of the food chains might stand strong alone, but that’s not to say they are always at the highest advantage.  Think about poison dart frogs who are not much bigger than a dollar coin whose venom has the ability to be lethal in a matter of seconds… or insects with the power of camouflage…

As for humans, some find their strengths in beauty, in being athletic or from emotional or mental accomplishments.  The shorter person might make up for it by having the bigger personality while the smart person might not live up to his or her capabilities because of laziness.  There will always be something that balances us all out, something different that we can all bring to the table.  Some of us are math whizzes, others are better at visuals.  Just like the dinosaurs and the food chain, we all have our defenses.  I found this so freeing, because sometimes we can all get in these critical slumps where we analyze ourselves to a pulp.  She is soooo much prettier than me, or he is sooooo much better at his job than I am… always comparing when really how can you?  We are all so different, so complex in our makeup and genes (jeans… har har…), in what we like, in our experiences and passions that really how can you apply the same formula to a completely different equation?

Use your strengths, work on your weaknesses… nobody is perfect but when you match everyone together we’ve all got something to bring to the table in our own individualized way… like Marchesa… who cares if the people behind this brand are decent human beings when they can create and add such beauty to the world (although I sure they are and that’s just adding icing to the cake).

How incredible are these dresses?  My all time favorites at the moment… what I wouldn’t give to be dressed in one of these for an event *yums*
