My Month In iPhone Pics

Just finished watching the Bill Cunningham documentary (yes, I know, I’m the last person on the face of the earth to see it), and honest to god – I almost cried.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the street style photographer who snaps for the New York Times, Bill Cunningham is legendary when it comes to the art of fashion observation.  I hate to admit it, but many names and faces in the fashion industry are very foreign to me.  It is something I really have never researched (although I am taking a vow that now that I have Fashion Television set up right beside my workstation, I will not leave the gain of new information to circumstance), instead just waited for hints or leads to drop into my lap.  Before this film, I didn’t know much about Bill, or even his work for that matter.  What I found, was an honest, passionate and down to earth enigma.  A man with little to no possessions (other than his body of work throughout the years), a smile for everyone he comes across, and a focus like no one else I’ve ever seen.  If you don’t get a hot blooded flash of inspiration to work at your dreams and never compromise your vision from watching him, I don’t know what else will get you there.  The character he is (and created through simplicity of his own lifestyle and understanding of what is important and what isn’t), is truly something unique – to be admired.  The last scene of the movie he states that he tries to be true and real with how he works and lives his life.  That it is a near impossible feat in New York amidst the corruption and sometimes twisted motives.

Bill, I think you are nothing short of a fashion saint.  We should all learn by example from you.

How has my month been going?  Check out my twitter/iPhone/instagram recap…

… new addition to my animal kingdom – African frogs!  Found them in a pet store downtown (the rocks release oxygen and nutrients into the water, and you only have to feed them twice a week – score!).  What did I name them?  Vito and Tony (mafia amphibians yo)…

… vintage looking bikini top a la Aqua Di Lara!  I was recently part of a blogger shoot they did on Crescent street at La Maison ISHI.  Can’t wait to see the final result…

… books, books, books!  It’s what I’ve been doing with all of my free time (aside from attempting a start up with working out in my building’s gym.  I.  Hate.  Squats).  Currently reading Steve Martin’s An Object Of Beauty – a fictitious novel based on the reality and personalities in the New York art world.  Interesting so far, but no cigar in comparison to the reality of Patti Smith’s Just Kids…

… last week I ventured out with Montreal media on Laurier street to discover and explore some of the decadent shops, eateries and lifestyle stores.  Not only did I have a blast meeting a few new faces, but it was awesome to quickly tour shops I have walked by but never entered.  Loving these suede and pony hair Filippa boots from Billie Boutique…

… I was also in Toronto for the day last Wednesday for the PUREOLOGY tea party event.  I spent the rest of the afternoon with my dear friend Serge, who always takes amazing care of me while guiding me around to the chicest places in town)… A new find?  We guzzled foamed cappuccino’s and decadent fondant chocolate cake (pic below) at La Gourmande in the Queen Street West area… gaaaaaaa, so good…

… the Laurier romp stopped in on the Michel Brisson party.  Stylists, designers, an abundance of sushi and luxury umbrellas were the party highlights among the beautifully tailored menswear creations (I met Montreal design favourite Samuel Mercure!  Woot, woot!)…

… now how good does this look?  I mean seriously…

… I rocked some hair extensions for the latest shoot I did with Rowenta stylist Luigi Rosi.  It’s fun having temporary hair!…

… another stop on Laurier was Argent Tonic – gorgeous handmade silver rings (including the old school ones you stamp your initials into wax with – perfect for the stationery obsessed), bracelets and necklaces mixed in with semi precious stones…

… and back to the PUREOLOGY event (I hope you don’t mind me skipping back and forth between everything)… top stylists straight from the salons of Toronto’s Yorkville set up styling shop to play around with the “do’s” of the press in attendance.  I’m actually severely excited to try the products prescribed to me out – they have an all natural line specifically for parched platinum blonde locks (protein enriched and all)…

… baby pug has been getting her eight to ten hours of zzz’s…

… window display at the PUREOLOGY event…

… in love with these Rich & Skinny leather lookalike jeans (waxed) found at Billie Boutique on Laurier…

… a highlight to the Laurier romp was definitely the food.  From oysters to stuffing our faces with the Christmas logs at Patisserie de Gascogne, not only was my belly full of good food, but my mind was spinning from an afternoon of bubbly…

… now most people drop into Olive & Gourmando when they hit up Old Port lunch eateries (myself included), but if you’re in for a little change including the most incredible waffles I have yet to taste (seriously, these were beyond divine), try the French charcuterie/bistro right across the street.  Unfortunately I can’t for the life of me remember the name of this place, but you can’t miss the very real looking plastic hams hanging in their storefront windows…

… one of my favourite finds on Laurier was Lyla – a lingerie shop clad with Moschino (amongst a slew of other luxury brands) shoes and bags, the most elaborate selection of Woolford bodysuits I have yet to see, and hard to find european labels.  Check out their second floor to be swept off your feet with glitz and glam (a must-know for all the well dressed femme fatales out there)…

… it’s a KORRES Christmas!  I’ve been swimming in their absolutely amazing products since I got them all week long… Basil Lemon and Jasmine Body Butters, Quercetin & Oak anti aging night and eye creams, Guava shower gel, and Wild Rose face and eye serum – my skin has never been happier with all these treats!  Currently in love with them all, but will be able to give better insight in a week or two when I can really see the benefits of each of the products (they smell absolutely incredible)!

… my new local metro!  How a boot it?…

… nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nom nommmm…

… seriously need this book for my coffee table collection.  I stood in Urban Outfitters for a good hour dissecting the amazingness of every page.  Food for the mind/original…

… I drank more than five David’s teas in the span of an hour or two at the PUREOLOGY event (there goes another mention)… their Christmas selections will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside…

… all about my Buffalo faux fur Cecile jacket (and new ladylike vintage looking faux ostrich Aldo tote)…

… chocolate mousse (that ball on top is painted chocolate FYI)…

… Rebecca Minkoff quilted patent purse from Billie Boutique…

… chicken tenders salad at Baton Rouge (more bacon bits, avocado, hard boiled egg, artichoke and palm hearts SVP)…

… getting too used to being on a plane and I love it…

… more Argent Tonic finds <3…

… rediscovering past food flames at Bofinger a la mac and cheese.  Gawd I cannot escape fromage…

… Lyla gold and black dancing queen shoes…

… never too many macarons…

… two tone Chanel lookalikes at Lyla on Laurier…

… Grace Kelly.  What a gorgeous woman.  Checked out the exhibit of her life’s work, fashions and personal archives – dying to see the Elizabeth Taylor collection before it goes to auction, but don’t think I’ll make it to New York in the next week (living vicariously through this slideshow and Coco Rocha’s tweets as an alternative)…

… inspired by Teen Vogue’s Beauty Editor Eva Chen who always takes pictures of the floral arrangements at every event she stops in on…

… chained by Jean Michel Cazabat at Billie Boutique…

… mocha log!  SO divine for coffee lovers…

… Whiting and Davis slouchy chain purse found at Lyla…

… Philly cheeseburger… Bofinger makes dreams come true…

… thank you Buffalo for more jean goodies!  Been wearing these stretchies nonstop!
